We operate four Household Recycling Centres on behalf of Powys County Council.
They are located at Brecon, Llandrindod Wells, Lower Cwmtwrch and Newtown.
A wide range of items are accepted at the centres. We focus on maximising recycling and reuse and minimising waste to landfill.
Before you visit any of our centres, please sort your recycling by material type as it helps us Recycle the Right Way. It results in higher quality materials which can be recycled locally. This is better for the environment, supports our local economy and creates local jobs.
Please Choose to Reuse too, keep any items that are suitable for reuse separate and speak to a member of staff when you arrive on site.

Visiting the centres
Before you come to the centre
- Sort your waste and separate your recycling so you can dispose of everything in your ten minute slot. Staff may open black bags or other containers when you arrive at the centre to make sure all the recycling has been separated. Any bags or boxes of mixed, unsorted materials will be refused.
- Consider whether any of your unwanted items could be reused.
- Make sure that two people can manage to unload what you are bringing. Don’t bring more than you can unload in ten minutes without help from our staff.
- Consider the weight and size of your load to make sure you are able to deposit it safely. Staff can help with bulky items but may not be able to help if waste is unreasonably heavy.
When you visit the centre
- Bring ID to show that you live in Powys.
- Bring the same car that you booked the appointment for – we will check your registration number.
- Arrive as close to your time slot as possible.
- The speed limit is 5mph, please drive slowly at all times.
- Stay in your car until staff direct you to drive into the site. Children and pets must remain in vehicles at all times.
- Please wear suitable clothing and footwear when visiting the Household Recycling Centre.
- Switch off your engine and apply your parking brake before offloading.
- Items bought to the centre must be recycled correctly. Throwing anything away in the residual/general rubbish skips must be a last resort and only used for non-recyclable items.
- If you are unsure in which containers to recycle your items in, or have an item for reuse, please speak to a member of staff who will be happy to help.
- Finish unloading your vehicle in ten minutes
- Comply with any request or instruction given by staff.
- Ask staff for advice and assistance if needed.
- Bring a payment card if you need to pay for chargeable items.
Important – if you are abusive to staff, you will be asked to leave and the Police may be called.

Choose to Reuse
When you visit any of our Household Recycling Centres please Choose to Reuse.
If you have an item that you no longer need that is too good to be recycled or disposed of, you can place it in the dedicated Choose to Reuse area, available at each site.
We are looking to introduce reuse shops at all our Household Recycling Centres. You will soon be able to donate and/or buy items during your visit. All donated items will be sold to help raise money for local causes. More details will follow shortly.
