Choose to Reuse gives £65K boost to St David’s Hospice

Bryson Recycling is proud to announce a donation of £65,000 to St David's Hospice, a contribution made possible through its innovative Choose to Reuse shops. These shops, located at Bryson’s Household Recycling Centres in Mochdre and Rhyl, sell pre-loved items donated by local residents, turning waste into a resource for the benefit of the local community.
In the past year alone, 260,000 items have been sold at their Choose to Reuse shops, successfully diverting 325 tonnes of materials from landfill. The initiative not only benefits the environment but also provides local residents with affordable household items while raising much-needed funds for a local charity.
Beyond the environmental and charitable impact, the two Choose to Reuse shops play a vital role in the local economy, creating employment for 14 members of staff.
This is a joint project, that Bryson run in partnership with Conwy County Borough Council and Denbighshire County Council, with profits going to St David's Hospice. This donation will directly support their mission to provide local people with the end of life care they deserve.
The Choose to Reuse initiative encourages local residents to donate items that are too good to be disposed of. Donations can be taken to the warehouse beside the Mochdre shop entrance or given directly into the Rhyl shop. By participating, you help extend the lifespan of reusable items, reduce waste and contribute to a circular economy.
Over the last five years, Bryson has donated over £48,000 to local charities in North Wales, through their Recycling Rewards campaign where they donate £1 to charity for every tonne they recycle.
Commenting on the donation, Gareth Walsh, General Manager at Bryson Recycling, said:
“As a social enterprise, Bryson Recycling is committed to finding more sustainable ways to deal with our waste. When you choose to reuse, you can make a real difference – not only are you helping keep items in use longer, which benefits the environment, but you also supporting the local economy and a charity that provides vital services in our community. Thank you to everyone who has either donated or bought items at our shops, which has helped made this donation possible”.
Margaret Hollings, Commercial Director at St Davids Hospice, added:
“The work that Bryson Recycling is doing is incredible and is very much aligns with our values when it comes to sustainability. We are really grateful to them for choosing to donate this amazing sum to St David’s Hospice and thank all those in the community for helping to raise such an amount that will make a massive difference to our patients.”
